The third annual Asia Optical Fiber Communication & Optoelectronic
Exposition & Conference (AOE 2007) took place at the Shanghai Expo
Convention Center in Shanghai, China over a very exciting three days
in October of 2007.
Attending the exhibition were more than 2500 visitors, 600 attendees
associated with the exhibitors, 300 speakers and 400 attendees at
the conference. The 3800 total registered visitors from China and 38
other countries represent an impressive increase of 27% of overall
attendance at last year’s AOE 2006. Product displays held steady
this year, with one hundred and seventy companies represented. Some
of the many international firms that participated included Corning
Incorporated, Avanex Corporation, Agilent Technologies and Fiberxon.
We are extremely pleased with the success of the academic
conference. Participation in the peer-reviewed technical talks
increased tremendously over last year’s conference, by nearly 200%,
with almost two hundred presentations. These included plenary
addresses, panel discussions, workshops and poster sessions (all
held in English).
Ably presiding over the AOE 2007 Conference were co-chairs Professor
Yi-Xin Chen of Shanghai Jiaotong University, Professor Thomas Koch
of Lehigh University, and Professor Sailing He of the Royal
Institute of Technology in Sweden. We could not have achieved these
numbers without the great commitment of time and effort of our
co-chairs.
Preparations are already underway for AOE 2008, scheduled to take
place 31 October through 2 November 2008 in Shanghai.
